Wedding Flowers, where do I start?

Dreaming about your wedding flowers is so much fun! For many brides the first stop for inspiration is–you guessed it, Pinterest! What is not to love about such an amazing resource? I mean, where else can you find what to cook for dinner, the latest fashion trends and how to decorate like Joanna Gaines all while pinning your next exercise routine? Am I right?! It provides so much information within seconds! While we value this amazing resource, there are some things we would like brides to consider before entering a wedding pinning craze.

Inspiration is everything!

It is easy to fall in love with images of gorgeous wedding flowers on the Internet, we have have all been there.  But it can also be a bit precarious to do so. Perhaps the image you love and the blooms in season on your wedding date are not aligned or it may not be a realistic from a budget perspective. Rather than falling in love with a specific image, take a closer look at it and pinpoint exactly what it is that you like most about it. Whether it would be texture, color, or movement; these are all great starting points for your florist to create an authentic design that you will love!

Harmonious Design

The environment in which these flowers are going to be in is very important and should be taken into consideration. Your venue’s overall style and color, as well as lighting are extremely important. At the end of the day, you want to create a harmonious experience for your guests to enjoy. Play to the strengths of your venue, don’t try to fight it. An aesthetically pleasing design is one that looks seamless. Color and style is a big part of this one. For example, if you are dreaming of a soft, minimalist affair but have already selected an ornate ballroom with blue carpet, etc–chances are the end result might not be as light and airy as you had hoped for. Sure, spaces can be transformed but it usually comes with a price tag. Bottom line, select a color palette and style of flowers that is aligned with the environment in which they will be in and will ultimately enhance your venue.

Leave room for the unexpected

Most brides have a general idea of what floral pieces they will need for their wedding. At the top of their priority list you will usually find, centerpieces and bouquets and we love that! While we think these are an essential part of any wedding, we believe every wedding should also have a “wow” moment–a focal piece, something a little unexpected. Floral installations are a great way to create something memorable that will make your wedding stand out from the rest. Whether it would be highlighting a staircase, or perhaps a canopy of draping greenery…whatever the design is, floral installations can truly elevate a space. It is okay if you do not know exactly what, just leave some room in your budget for your florist to provide ideas on what this highlight piece could be!
